What is bumble coffee and espresso tonic: what is the difference

A cup of aromatic freshly brewed coffee and a glass of orange juice served for breakfast - such a scene can be found in many Hollywood films. And the mysterious name “bumble” is increasingly appearing on the menus of domestic coffee shops. It turns out that there is a direct connection between these facts. After all, coffee with orange juice is called “bumble”, or “American orange”. It got its name from the English bumble bee - i.e. “bee”; its colors are reminiscent of the orange-black layers of this exotic drink.

The history of bumble coffee

This iced coffee with orange juice was invented in Russia in 2001. It is believed that the first such cocktail was made by a barista in a Moscow coffee shop. One day the bartender decided to mix orange juice with black coffee.

The color of the resulting drink reminded him of an insect. This is where the name bumble bee comes from, which means bumblebee. It turned out that these ingredients go well together.

Therefore, such coffee lemonade quickly spread not only throughout Russia, but also throughout the world. People like the name of the cocktail and what it is associated with.

However, Brazilians, like true coffee lovers, do not want to give up their championship to others. They do not agree that bumble was invented in Russia.

Residents of Brazil offer their version of the origin of this cocktail. There is an opinion that the first bumble was mixed there. Therefore, the question of origin remains open.

How to choose drink ingredients

To make the bumble tasty and aromatic, all ingredients must be of high quality and fresh. Incorrectly selected products will ruin the cocktail.

Syrup

The classic bumble contains caramel syrup. It is important to choose a quality product and not skimp on it. All ingredients equally influence the taste of the drink.

The most popular company on the Russian market is Monin. A company with more than a century of history offers a wide range of high-quality syrups to choose from. Their caramel product is also of a good standard.

Oranges

A big mistake in making bumble is using packaged juice. This product does not have the necessary aroma and taste. Therefore, it is better to use freshly squeezed juice. You need to choose good oranges for it.

What to look for in the store:

  1. Ripeness. If the fruits are not ripe, there will be little juice. To assess the ripeness of an orange, you can smell it; the smell must be appropriate to the product. Another way is to press on the fruit. The pulp inside should be soft. And another indicator is a rich orange color.
  2. Juiciness. Most often, this indicator depends on the previous one. The juicy fruit is soft to the touch. It should also have a thin and smooth peel.
  3. Sweetness. Sour fruits are not suitable for bumble. The sweetness of an orange can be determined by its color and size. The suitable fruit is bright and large.

Coffee

Only freshly ground coffee is used to prepare bumble.

This is due to several reasons:

  1. The oxidation process does not have time to occur.
  2. Strong aroma. This fact is important because orange juice attracts attention, and the ingredients should be felt in equal proportions.

Arabica beans are suitable. This variety will give off flavor and will not be strong. The use of instant coffee is not allowed, as is the addition of packaged juice. This option is only allowed for home cooking. But the quality of the resulting coffee bumble will be appropriate.

Citrus raff at home

First we prepare the coffee. I have a drip coffee maker, so I made coffee in it.

Whisk the warm milk, I do this with a small electric milk whisk.

We put sugar in the coffee, and I also added a little cold milk so that the coffee is not hot, but warm. After this, pour in the orange syrup.

Finally, add steamed milk to the coffee.

The proportions are approximately the following: two parts coffee, one part milk. Although you can have more milk, it’s also tasty and depends only on personal preferences.

And one more important detail - you need to add a little orange syrup, literally about a tablespoon per glass, otherwise the milk in the coffee will curdle again. And it’s not so tasty when there’s a lot of syrup - it then overpowers all the other tastes in the drink, coffee and milk, and it’s not the same anymore.

And here it is in the end - our citrus raf.

Original Bumble Coffee Recipe

There are many ways to prepare such a drink. For example, there is an American version when all the ingredients are mixed in a shaker.

The name of this cocktail is “Americano Orange”.

Often juice and ice are mixed in a blender so that small particles can be felt in the liquid. In this case, traditional frozen cubes are not used.

Required Ingredients

The original recipe uses the following ingredients:

  • espresso – 60 ml (double portion);
  • orange juice – 100 ml (1 large fruit);
  • caramel syrup – 30 ml;
  • ice.

Cooking instructions

To make the drink look like a bumblebee, i.e. retained the “striations”, it is necessary to strictly follow the cooking algorithm and not violate the steps.

Instructions:

  1. Brew coffee. You can use a car or use a Turk. In the second case, you need to get rid of sediment and foam.
  2. Place ice in a tall glass about halfway up.
  3. Pour syrup into the bottom of the glass.
  4. Using a spoon, add freshly squeezed juice along the side.
  5. Pour coffee on top in the same way.

An important nuance: the glass and juice should be as cold as possible. If everything is done correctly, you will end up with a drink that is similar in color to a bumblebee: with brown and yellow stripes.

Fruit and berry non-alcoholic cocktails: 3 recipes

A cocktail with layers looks very nice. Here is one of the options with the romantic name “Fruit Kiss”.

  • 2 oranges;
  • 1 large fresh peach;
  • 1 cup pitted cherries;
  • 300 gr. peeled fresh pineapple;
  • some ice.

Peel and pit the peach, cut into pieces and place in a blender. Turn into puree. Pour the puree into a glass, this will be the first layer of our cocktail

To prepare the second layer you will need a juicer. Peel the pineapple, cutting out the hard center, and cut into pieces. We pass the pineapple through a juicer. Then we send the cherries there too. Separately squeeze the juice from the oranges.

Coffee

Coffee is one of the most common additives in baked goods. Thanks to it, pastries, cakes and muffins acquire a bitter but unique taste. By the way, not many people like coffee cakes, preferring to replace it with another popular additive - cocoa.

Products for dough

  • premium flour - 185 g;
  • granulated sugar - 125 g;
  • one chicken egg;
  • vegetable oil - 80 ml;
  • buttermilk - 180 ml;
  • cold natural brewed coffee - 100 ml;
  • instant coffee powder - 2 tbsp;
  • breadcrumbs - a couple of tablespoons;
  • hazelnuts - 100 g;
  • baking powder - 1 tsp.

for coffee cream:

  • natural chilled coffee - 6 tablespoons;
  • low-fat dietary cottage cheese - 250 g;
  • granulated sugar - 1 tsp;
  • almond cookies - 50 g;
  • shaped chocolate for decoration (can be replaced with any other decor).

The recipe includes an ingredient such as buttermilk, which is unfamiliar to many housewives. Buttermilk can safely be called low-fat cream, which is obtained during the production of butter. Buttermilk is also called buttermilk, because if you beat it, it will have a consistency similar to sour cream.

By the way, buttermilk in Muslim countries is a national drink. It has dietary properties and quenches thirst well. If you can't find buttermilk in the store, you can replace it with the following products: low-fat kefir, whey, yogurt, low-fat yogurt or milk (also low-fat).

Cooking steps

First of all, prepare the oven and molds: turn on the oven at 180 degrees, grease the baking molds with oil and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.

While the oven is heating, prepare the dough. Grind half of the total amount of nuts into crumbs, and chop the other half into larger pieces.

Beat eggs with sugar, add vegetable oil and buttermilk one by one. Mix pre-sifted flour, instant coffee and nuts, add baking powder and combine with the beaten egg mixture. Quickly knead the dough and, having filled the molds halfway, put them in the oven for half an hour.

Take the finished cupcakes out of the oven and let them cool right in the molds.

Then carefully remove - you can run a sharp knife along the sides to remove the cupcakes from the pan. Place the muffins on a plate and pour a tablespoon of cold coffee over each of them.

Prepare coffee cream: mix the remaining coffee from pouring with diet cottage cheese and sugar, stir until smooth. Break the cookies into crumbs, but not too small. Place coffee cream on each cupcake, sprinkle with cookies and decorate with chocolate figures (or at your discretion).

What tastes better – bumble or espresso tonic?

What these 2 drinks have in common is that they are served and consumed chilled and with plenty of ice. Otherwise, tastes vary greatly. There is a distinct coffee flavor in the espresso tonic.

The cocktail is unsweetened, but pleasant and refreshing. Due to the liquor and freshly squeezed juice, Bumble has a slightly sugary taste.

The choice can only be made by trying both types of coffee.

What is the difference

Both cocktails are made with espresso and ice. This is the only similarity. Next, there is a significant difference in the ingredients.

Syrup and juice are added to the bumble, making the drink sweet. The second option uses a tonic that produces moderate bitterness. At the same time, there is practically no sweetness in the espresso tonic.

Differences
The bumble is sweet with syrup, and the espresso tonic has a slightly bitter taste.

Effect on the body

Coffee allows you to restore strength and stay in good shape for a long time. The positive effect especially extends to the brain and concentration. Orange makes the drink more healthy and unique. Thus, the vitamins and microelements of the fruit have a good effect on the heart and contribute to the smooth functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.

The orange fruit is rich in theine, which has a similar effect to caffeine. Therefore, coffee with orange tones up even more than plain coffee without additives.

Vitamin C contained in orange neutralizes the negative effects of caffeine. In addition, its juice contains vitamins A, B and E.

Orange coffee recipes

There is also a negative impact. Caffeine is addictive, it's no secret. Orange will not help in this regard. In addition, if you drink more than 2-3 cups per day, all the positive effects will be lost. An overdose of coffee causes severe headaches, dizziness, and nausea.

The drink is contraindicated for pregnant women, people with diabetes, high blood sugar levels, and hypertensive patients. It is dangerous to drink coffee for patients with ulcers, gastritis and other gastrointestinal problems.

More about espresso tonic

This is one of the popular summer non-alcoholic cocktails.

Who invented coffee and tonic and how?

Coffee with tonic originates from Europe. It was invented by Anne Lunell in Helsingborg in 2007. After the party, the woman's colleague mixed the remaining coffee, syrup and tonic. It turned out delicious and refreshing. Later, Anne finalized the recipe and included it in the coffee shop menu.

Cooking rules

There are several simple rules that are important to follow when preparing this coffee:

  1. More ice. The glass can be filled to the brim with it.
  2. Pour the tonic into the glass immediately so that it has time to cool while the coffee is prepared.
  3. Use fruity notes in espresso.

Ingredients

The taste of the cocktail depends on the quality of the ingredients. A good tonic should be used. Natural and tasty coffee will also make the cocktail better.

Ingredients:

  • espresso – 30 ml (1 serving);
  • tonic – 200 ml;
  • lime – ¼ tsp;
  • ice.

What is good about coffee with added orange juice?

Both lovers of citrus fruits and connoisseurs of the tonic drink will appreciate the taste of bumble, in which the tart bitterness of espresso is complemented by the sunny sourness of orange.

“Striped cocktail” is useful: coffee, as studies have shown, can protect the heart from arrhythmias, and its aroma has a stimulating effect on the nervous system and helps to concentrate. Even a small portion of oranges contains many vitamins B and C, as well as useful microelements such as potassium, magnesium, iron, calcium, etc. Together they have a beneficial effect on both the cardiovascular system and the immune system. Therefore, American orange can be recommended as a tasty and healthy treat.
