How to brew instant coffee correctly: 3 secrets that few people know

Instant coffee is made from real coffee beans that have gone through a complex process. First, the grains are fried, crushed, and then treated with boiling water. The finished type of product – powder, granular or sublimated – depends on further procedures.

The taste and aroma of any type of instant product is quite pleasant, although it is clearly inferior to the natural one. But if you experiment a little with the ingredients, you can create your own original and tasty recipe for your favorite drink.

Whipped Coffee Recipe

You might be considered too conservative if you missed the Dalgona whipped coffee trend that swept social media in early 2022.

Whipped coffee or Dalgona coffee is a South Korean coffee treat that is made with just 3 ingredients in 5 minutes. The result is a creamy, foamy and delicious drink.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 cups (500 ml) milk of choice.

Necessary equipment

  • A bowl
  • whisk

Cooking instructions

In a bowl, using an electric mixer or whisk, beat the sugar, instant coffee and hot water.

The mixture will be dark brown at first, but the color will change as you whisk. You need to beat until you achieve a fluffy, smooth and creamy texture with a light color.

Spoon it onto hot or cold milk or water.

Notes:

Use a bowl to mix the coffee and water mixture; a mug, jug or flask will not work.

It is recommended to use a hand or stand mixer. If you use a whisk, the process will take longer.

Use hot water instead of cold.

Instead of coffee, you can use decaffeinated coffee.

You can reduce the amount of sugar by half, but then the mixture will not be as creamy. You can also use a sugar substitute such as stevia. Brown sugar also works well.

Whipped coffee can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours.

Additives to whipped coffee can be varied:

  • You can take half the milk and replace half with Baileys;
  • Coconut milk with ice;
  • Vanilla bean paste;
  • Ground cinnamon;
  • Coffee liqueur.

  • 1 tsp. nescafe (or other coffee depending on how strong you like it);
  • a glass of milk;

  • sugar to taste;
  • cinnamon (optional) or coffee powder.

Preparation:

  1. Place coffee powder and sugar into a coffee mug;
  2. Add a few drops of water (just enough to form a thick paste). Stir vigorously with a spoon, and soon you can see that the coffee and sugar form a whitish shiny paste;
  3. Boil milk and water together (if you don’t like milky coffee, you can boil plain water (1 glass) and add a few drops of milk to your taste directly into the mug). Pour this from a low height into a mug so that the coffee foams;
  4. Sprinkle a little drinking chocolate (or cinnamon if you like cinnamon flavor) on top for effect.

Classic coffee brewing option

It is no secret that flavor enhancers, flavorings and other substances are added to instant drinks. If you brew instant coffee with boiling water, you will smell the chemical and the taste will change. That is why manufacturers do not recommend pouring boiling water over it; it is enough to dissolve the coffee with water at t = 85° C.

There are many recipes for espresso, ice, cappuccino from instant coffee. Moreover, lovers of this type of drink prepare it at home so that no artificial flavors are felt; on the contrary, it smells very good and has a pleasant mild taste.

Mocha dalgona coffee

The cloud-like consistency of fluffy coffee is sure to make your morning more fun.

Mocha dalgona coffee is a chocolate whipped version of the classic dalgona coffee. Add 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder to the instant coffee + water + sugar mixture and beat until a thick foam forms. When adding cocoa powder, getting hard peaks is not so easy and requires a little effort.

The key to perfectly airy coffee and achieving fluffy, stiff peaks is to carefully follow these steps:

Make sure you use instant coffee and not espresso or any other coffee;

Use boiling water;

Use regular white sugar;

Blend the coffee in an electric mixer or with the whisk of an immersion blender. An electric mixer with two beaters will not work;

For this coffee, use any instant coffee and any unsweetened cocoa powder. You don't need to sweeten it because you're still adding sugar to the mixture.

One tablespoon of cocoa is enough to really taste the rich chocolate taste. If you want to add more, it may take longer to froth the coffee.

You can also use any milk: cow's milk or even vegan milk.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee;
  • 2 tablespoons sugar;
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (no sugar);
  • 2 tablespoons of boiling water;
  • Additionally: milk.

Cooking instructions:

Mix all ingredients in a heatproof jar, bottle or tall mug. Beat the mixture with a mixer for 3-5 minutes or until stiff peaks form and it is foamy and fluffy. Spoon hot or cold milk on top.

Warm instant coffee with hot cocoa.

This is a handy recipe to remember at work, school, traveling or camping when you don't have access to a kitchen. Adding cocoa and cinnamon can make a world of difference.

For 1 serving you need:

  • 1 tbsp. milk (or water);
  • instant coffee;
  • 1 tsp. cocoa;
  • a pinch of cinnamon.

Preparation:

  1. Bring liquid (milk or water) to a boil.
  2. Place a single serving amount of cocoa mixture and instant coffee granules into an empty mug.
  3. Add cinnamon to the mug and then a little milk to form a paste. Better done with a fork than a spoon.
  4. Gradually add the rest of the hot liquid while stirring. Serve hot.

Variations:

If you want more chocolate flavor, you need to increase the amount of cocoa mixture. You can also adjust the amount of cinnamon. Using a cinnamon stick to stir the cocoa is another option.

How to cook properly

There are two main mistakes when preparing instant coffee: brewing at too high a temperature and adding the entire volume of water at once. In the first case, the aroma disappears and an unpleasant bitterness appears; in the second, the drink simply dissolves unevenly and does not reveal its taste properties. In order for powdered coffee to resemble grain coffee, you should adhere to this recipe.

Preheat the mug for serving

Shortly before brewing, pour boiling water into it and leave for a couple of minutes. Then pour out the liquid, put 1-2 tablespoons of instant coffee in a mug, add sugar and a pinch of salt to taste - it enhances the taste of the drink - and mix everything.

Do not use water that is not too hot

The optimal temperature is 80-90 degrees. With it, the granules quickly dissolve, but the coffee does not remain overheated.

Gradually pour in the granules

Pour a couple of tablespoons of water over the coffee and stir until completely dissolved. Gradually stir in the remaining water. To improve the taste, you can use spices - orange zest removes sourness, nutmeg and cinnamon - bitterness, anise adds sweetness.

All that remains is to choose the recipe that you like the most.

  2. Heat the milk on the stove over medium heat and whisk until foamy;

Honey salty-sweet latte

It sounds strange, but the taste is surprising: all thanks to the combination of floral sweetness and the use of sea salt.

You will need:

  • A cup of freshly brewed coffee, just like in a vanilla latte recipe.
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Coarse sea salt
  • A glass of milk

Heat the milk, mix it with a spoon of honey and process it with a cappuccino maker or in a French press. Prepare coffee and add honey mixture to it. Sprinkle salt on top of the drink and add the remaining honey.

Freeze-dried coffee

Ingredients:

  • instant coffee, sugar and boiling water

Strong coffee with thick foam

Ingredients:

  • instant coffee,
  • sugar,
  • water

Cooking method:

  1. Add boiling water to make a paste and beat with a spoon (long) or with a mixer (quickly).
  2. If you have a mixer, you can add more water.
  3. If you beat with a spoon, then there should be less water than in the photo - just enough so that the coffee dissolves into porridge, but not into liquid, otherwise you can beat indefinitely.
  4. Beat with a spoon for 1-2 minutes until the mixture turns white.
  5. Add hot water in a thin stream, lowering and raising the kettle over the cup.
  6. That's all the wisdom
  7. This method is especially helpful when you need to photograph ordinary coffee beautifully.
  8. Or serve beautifully to your loved one

Healthy – with ginger and honey

They start by preparing a healing infusion. Peel the ginger root, cut into thin layers or grate on a coarse grater. 1 cm of root in length is enough per serving. After pouring boiling water over the ginger, let it steep for 5-6 minutes. Pour 1 teaspoon of coffee into a mug, add a spoonful of honey and the same amount of lemon juice. During this time, the infusion has time to cool down; it can be heated in the microwave. Then pour the mixture into a mug, stir until the granules and honey dissolve.

Ginger root has all-round benefits. Only fresh, not dried product should be prepared. Tip: thin slices will look more aesthetically pleasing than grated ginger.

Nutritious – with chocolate and condensed milk

This instant coffee recipe is especially for those with a sweet tooth. It’s better to prepare the “filling” first so that the drink doesn’t have time to cool down. To do this, you need to heat 150 ml of milk. Add 20 g of dark chocolate to it, beat everything together with a mixer until smooth.

  • Don't miss: How instant coffee differs from natural coffee

Now quickly brew instant coffee and pour the resulting mixture into it. Next add 2 tablespoons of condensed milk. This drink will invigorate and replenish the body with endorphins!

Making Egyptian coffee with foam

Baristas often prepare this type of coffee with foam in Egyptian coffee shops. Moreover, recipes from different specialists may differ.

For the process you need:

  • two containers (cups or coffee glasses)
  • instant coffee - 15 grams;
  • sugar - 3 small spoons;
  • hot bottled water - 120 ml;
  • warm milk - 80 ml;
  • tube - 1 pc.

Step-by-step recipe for making foamy coffee:

  1. Pour the instant product (half a serving) and sugar into the first cup, and pour some water at room temperature into it.
  2. Cut the cocktail tube at the end and bend it so that you get helicopter blades.
  3. Lower the cut end into the cup, pinch the upper end with your palms, and begin to rotate.
  4. Over time, this process results in the formation of a creamy composition.
  5. Now make coffee with milk in the second cup. First, pour in the remaining coffee, sugar, hot water, and milk.
  6. Carefully place the foam on top. The drink is ready to drink.

For variety, vanilla, chocolate chips, cinnamon, etc. are added to this drink.

This foam is used not only for coffee drinks, but also for decorating baked goods.

Pre-dissolution

Real experts in instant coffee have come up with their own trick, with which you can further improve the taste of the drink and give it a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. Pour coffee into a cup, add sugar to taste, and then add water, but not all at once - at first limit yourself to just a drop, less than a teaspoon.

Splash a little and quickly mix, turning all the ingredients into a homogeneous mass. As soon as everything has whipped into foam, pour in the bulk of the water. The result will be a caramel cap, and the coffee will look as if you just brought it from the nearest coffee shop.
