Coffee Mochaccino - a combination of creamy and chocolate notes

Mochaccino is a coffee drink that contains espresso coffee, milk and hot chocolate (sometimes replaced with chocolate syrup). This latte variation has a richer creamy taste, mixed with sweet chocolate notes.

This coffee owes its popularity not only to its delicate taste, but also to a large number of different recipes and preparation variations. It warms perfectly in winter and refreshes in summer, and a variety of additives will satisfy and delight even the most avid gourmets and sweet tooths.

Mochaccino - what kind of coffee is it?

This is a dessert coffee drink to which milk and hot chocolate are added.

In some parts of the world there are different recipes for its preparation. The richness of flavors is due to the history of this type of coffee.

History of origin

The birthplace of this drink is the USA. It was originally called “mocha” because it was prepared on the basis of the Yemeni Arabica with that name, and today other varieties are used to prepare it.

Cafe visitors wished that the coffee was not so bitter. Baristas met their customers halfway and began to improve the taste of coffee, adding milk and cream, various sweeteners and chocolate chips, and then chocolate syrup, to invigorating espresso. The delicious drink was loved by visitors, and coffee instantly gained popularity in America, and then crossed the ocean, spreading to Europe.

History of origin
Coffee connoisseurs wanted it not to be bitter.

True, in European countries the recipe has undergone changes, and the cocktail began to be considered a type of latte, receiving the name “mochaccino”, which was invented by the Italians. Before this, Europeans called the drink “chocolate latte.” At the end of the last century, the European version of the cocktail became widely known in Russia.

Due to its popularity among the female population, it received another name - “ladies' coffee.”

Composition and calorie content

The calorie content of the drink is affected by the amount of sugar, added ingredients and the percentage of milk fat. On average, 100 g of coffee contains about 280 kcal. If the drink is prepared in a coffee maker, then its calorie content is 250 kcal, and if prepared independently, then 350 kcal.

The nutritional value of the drink is increased thanks to additional ingredients - chocolate, ice cream, cocoa and powdered sugar.

If you are watching your figure, then an excellent dietary option would be coffee without whipped cream, prepared with 1% fat milk. In this case, the calorie content of 1 serving will be 180–190 kcal.

However, the effect of this substance is slowed down and weakened due to the high content of milk and cream in the drink. In addition, it contains a large amount of carbohydrates. Thanks to its composition, the cocktail gives a boost of energy, causing a surge of energy and saturating the body, but acts softly, like a latte. Given its high nutritional value, the drink is best consumed between main meals.

Taste qualities

Types of mochaccino

Mochaccino has a variety of preparation methods, depending on geography. There are 2 popular types of coffee drink.

American

This recipe is easy and simple. Classic mocha is prepared using espresso from mocha beans. Only chocolate syrup (not cocoa) and whipped cream are added to it.

European

This drink has several dozen variations in European countries, as baristas are distinguished by their love of experimentation.

The standard composition of the drink includes:

  1. Strong coffee of various varieties, and not just Arabica, as in the American version.
  2. Grated chocolate and syrup or cocoa.
  3. Milk, the volume of which is 2 times higher than its American counterpart. As a result, the drink acquires a milder taste.
  4. Whipped cream.
  5. Decorations in the form of caramel, cinnamon, nuts.

EuropeanThe European drink has several variations.
The type and quantity of ingredients affect the flavor of coffee. In Russia, you can also try various versions of this cocktail, which came from Europe.

History of appearance

The mochaccino is believed to have originated in North America; initially this drink was made for those who were not delighted with the tart taste of espresso. This drink is also called “Ladies' coffee” , since it is preferred by the fairer sex, regardless of age.

Today this drink is distributed all over the world, but perhaps most of all, residents of North America and Europe enjoy it. However, the name of the drink in Europe and America is different. Thus, Americans call the drink “mocha,” while Europeans most often use the word “mochaccino.”

How is mochaccino different from other drinks?

Despite the common basis of drinks, mochaccino has some differences from its popular counterparts.

From latte

Before the mochaccino acquired its modern name, in European countries it was called a “chocolate latte.” And all because there is more chocolate in it than in a classic latte, which contains a large volume of whipped milk.

From mocha

Mocha is an American version of the drink that is more like cappuccino and contains less milk. Mochaccino is more like a cappuccino or latte.

Mocha
Mocha is similar to cappuccino, but contains less milk.

From cappuccino

Add 2 times more milk to the mochaccino, as well as a bar of chocolate with syrup. Whipped cream completes the cocktail. The surface of the cappuccino is covered with cinnamon, crushed slabs and nuts. In other details, these drinks are similar.

How to serve

Just like cappuccino, it is often decorated with frothed milk, sprinkled with cinnamon or marshmallows. Traditionally, glass goblets are used. Ceramic cups are also often used. The first option is suitable for you if the mochaccino is planned to be layered or with beautiful stains. By the way, the taste of layered and stirred mocha is exactly the same (this is one of the popular myths: layered mocha tastes better).

Often (for example, in Europe) mochaccino is served hot in a transparent glass and with a straw. It is assumed that you need to drink it through whipped cream, but this is not necessary - you can do without a straw, and many people think that it is even tastier this way. Mocha is an evening or, at least, afternoon drink. It warms you up well in cold rainy weather; you can drink a lot of it, since its invigorating effect is not as pronounced as espresso due to the presence of a large amount of milk in the drink.

Mocha in Turkish

Drink in a coffee machine

The peculiarity of preparing a drink in a coffee machine is that it mixes all the ingredients at the same time, and some machines have the option of whipping cream and making foam. However, the taste and aroma of such coffee will be inferior to a cocktail prepared under classical conditions. It is unlikely that a machine will replace the skill of human hands.

But for offices, this is a great option, because it saves time, and the drink turns out to be just as invigorating and energizing.

Average cost of a drink

If you prepare cappuccino yourself, its cost will be lower than in public establishments, and will be about 50–100 rubles. If you use homemade chocolate, the costs will be even lower.

Preparing the drink in capsule coffee machines will cost drink lovers about 30–40 rubles. for 1 capsule of moccacino. In a restaurant, the price of a cocktail will be significantly higher - from 400 rubles, since the price includes rent of premises, professional equipment with materials, and wages. In coffee shops, depending on their level, the price of a drink varies from 120 to 300 rubles. The more ingredients and decorations, the higher the cost of the mochaccino.

With ice

For hot summer days, a cold mochaccino recipe is more suitable. Its creamy taste will give you a feeling of long-awaited coolness and tenderness. Stock up on ingredients:

  • freshly brewed espresso;
  • 100 ml milk. If desired, it can be replaced with condensed;
  • ice;
  • 50 ml chocolate syrup.

First, prepare 100 ml of strong espresso. Mix it with syrup. Whip the milk into foam. Place ice cubes in a glass and prepared milk foam on top. Then carefully pour in the coffee-chocolate mixture. Try to pour it along the wall.

Additional Tips

It is not recommended to pour the ingredients in a thin stream, since the cocktail should have a multi-layered appearance. A knife with a wide blade, a silicone spatula or a spoon will help create distinct boundaries between elements.

Place the base of the tool against the edge of the vessel and slowly pour the liquid from a small height. Using a stencil and powder, you can create an unusual image by decorating the surface of a coffee drink with a pattern or inscription.

The wealth of recipes opens up space for creative experiments and allows coffee connoisseurs to enjoy the delicious taste of the cocktail.
