About the brand

The history of the enterprise began back in 1985, and then it was a small family business - Luigi Lavazza bought coffee beans, roasted them, studied the features and formed his own blends that customers liked. Now the holding is managed by the fourth generation of the family.

Today the Luigi Lavazza SpA group consists of more than 30 divisions, managed directly or indirectly by the parent company based in Turin.

The history of the enterprise began back in 1985

Raw materials and production

For the production of good coffee, the most important thing is the people who deal with it. Recognizing this, the company is engaged in projects to support local farmers in Central and South America, Africa and Asia, helping small producers with programs to improve the local economy, public life (schools, working conditions) and environmental protection.

The Lavazza industrial system is divided into six production plants: three in Italy, one each in France, India and Brazil. Products made in Italian factories are destined for the international market, while foreign factories operate for local markets.

About 27 billion cups of Lavazza coffee are consumed worldwide every year.

History of the Lavazza brand

You can call the company's birthday 1895. It was then that cousins of the Lavazza family founded a store where they offered, in addition to the usual goods - candles, alcohol, oils, products from the colonies - spices and coffee. Luigi Lavazzi was the first to roast grains, which made it possible to give them a distinct aroma. But at that time they were not popular - the main income came from oils and candles.

But Luigi had already thought about the highlight of the company, he wanted to give it prestige and status. And for this it was necessary to highlight a single product - Lavazzi focused on coffee. He himself mixed beans from different places, developing combinations to create drinks with deep taste. A lucky find was the parchment packaging, which allowed the scent to be preserved for several days. Now traveling salesmen could travel throughout Italy.

During Mussolini's time, the company's goal was to survive. They sold everything that was in demand, and returned to coffee after the war. And by the end of 1946, sales of roasted coffee beans increased to 124 tons, and in 1947 - to 407 tons.

In 1955, Lavazza acquired a roasting plant with an installed conveyor. The central office is still located in Corso. By 1980, the company was already known outside Italy, and since 1970 it has firmly held 3-4 place in the world market. Branches are opened in European countries - Germany, Austria, England, USA and Japan.

Lavazza is the undisputed leader in coffee in Italy, it has 7 branches in different countries. It produces coffee in various forms - beans, ground, capsules, products for food service chains and for home use. By 2010, trade turnover was estimated at 1.1 billion euros, and now it has grown 1.5 times.

Lavazza instant coffee

In this category, the assortment is very small, however, the company is focused on the production and sale of natural products. However, taking care of all its consumers, the brand produces two versions of the instant drink:

  • Prontissimo! Classico is a blend of Arabica, smooth and well-balanced, with delicate hints of caramel. Medium roast, dark color, persistent amber foam.

  • Prontissimo! Intenso is an extraordinary blend with a dark crema, a long finish, rich flavor and vibrant aroma. For those who like a slightly stronger drink.

Even in instant, a little ground is added (ultrafine grinding) - this gives a special thick texture, strong aroma and natural taste.

Criteria for choosing the best Turkish coffee

  1. Package . To preserve valuable essential oils and remove carbon dioxide formed after roasting beans, renowned manufacturers use bags with degassing valves. However, the most popular option is the triplex package. Such packaging consists of paper and combinations of polypropylene films, which vary depending on the type (ground or grain). Glass containers are also popular, but we advise you not to purchase such goods, since the transparent walls of the jar allow sunlight to pass through, which adversely affects the quality of the product.
  2. Taste . GOST 32775-2014 characterizes it as pleasant, rich, inherent to this product. Depending on the type: Arabica is softer with sourness, and Rabusta has a more intense, bitter taste.
  3. Aroma . Expressed, inherent in a given type of product. In addition, it varies depending on the botanical species: the aroma of Arabica is more refined, and since Rabusta contains less essential oils, its smell is less pronounced and alluring.
  4. Appearance . According to GOST 32775-2014, grains, as well as the ground mixture, can have shades from light brown to black-brown. No more than 6% of broken or fragmented grain is allowed in the grain mixture. The presence of coffee bean shells is allowed in the ground powder.
  5. Content of caffeine and extractives. In ground form, the caffeine content standard is no less than 0.7% (GOST 32775-2014). The content of extractive substances in a quality product should be within the range of 20.0 to 35.0%
  6. Compound . The correct manufacturer will definitely indicate in the composition what variety it contains and in what proportion, since the strength of the drink directly depends on this. If it says 100% Arabica, it means it was not mixed. However, Arabica and Rabusta are more often mixed.
  7. Degree of roasting. The surest way to determine it is by the color of the beans: the longer the roasting process, the darker the coffee beans become, and as a result, the richer and stronger the taste of the finished drink. Depending on this, we can distinguish: light, medium and dark degrees.
  8. Country of origin. It is also worth paying attention to the country where the coffee beans are delivered from: Colombian and Arabian are considered the best, but Brazilian specialists are not very fond of them.
  9. Grinding degree. There is a GOST requirement according to which the grinding of coffee beans must be at least 80%. However, on store shelves you can find 3 main types of grinding:
  • Fine - the grains are literally crushed into powder. This option is the best for brewing in a Turk.
  • Medium and coarse grinds are well suited for coffee makers or espresso machines. Regardless of the degree of grinding, the grains must be strictly the same size, since grains of different sizes need different cooking times.

How to distinguish from a fake?

Unscrupulous manufacturers are tempted by the production of counterfeits, in which cheap components can be added to natural coffee. To avoid being scammed when purchasing an original Italian product, you need to follow some recommendations:

  1. "Lavazza" is sold only in specialized stores.
  2. The packaging must be without strong dents.
  3. Each vacuum bag is equipped with a valve to release carbon dioxide.
  4. The label indicates the date of issue and country of production.
  5. The grains inside are identical in size and integrity.

The company offers a wide range of products to suit every taste. Each variety can give true pleasure to a fan of an invigorating drink.

Reviews

On most review sites, where products are rated on a five-point scale, this brand receives a 4.5 - 5, and this is based on dozens of opinions on each product. We can conclude that customers are truly satisfied with the brand's products.

“I bought Crema Gusto, and it’s really something! Rich, thick, foamy, invigorating! I liked it even more than the much-praised Oro. The previous pack lasted me about a month, I drink coffee 1-2 times a day, but I want Cream more often, so... I’ll definitely take more!” — Nastya, Moscow

“I’ve loved Lavazza for a long time, but for a long time I didn’t come across it in stores, but then I found it again - and there was a huge selection, I decided to take Rosso. Tasty, strong aroma, fairly fine grind, grounds settle well, reasonable price. I recommend to all". — Elena, Simferopol

Many coffee shops work with the brand, some purchase it as a distributor, others simply buy kilogram packs. You can find it at gas stations, bars, hotels - anywhere.

“We have a coffee machine at work and we drink Lavazza. It’s interesting to try new varieties, I see that the packages cost different things. Sometimes I take it home for myself, depending on the mood. An excellent drink, it has never let me down!” — Max, St. Petersburg.

Overall, we definitely recommend Lavazza coffee to all lovers of quality Italian espresso. Choose the appropriate composition and degree of roasting, and you will appreciate all its benefits.
