What is the name of cold iced coffee: Cold brew
The most popular cold coffee that can be easily prepared at home is “cold brew,” which means ground coffee beans are brewed using cold water.

(Toddy), which uses a special flask, or a simple method when you can use a regular
French press
.
This brewing method was invented because the usual method of creating cold coffee by refrigerating or adding ice to hot coffee spoils the taste of the drink. Cooled coffee loses its aroma, and coffee with ice added will not be as dense.
The cold brew method involves pouring cold water over ground coffee beans and brewing for 12-24 hours.
The advantages of this drink:
- Low acid and oil content
- High content of caffeine, phenol and tannin, which tone up
- This drink has a sweeter taste than regular espresso.
How to make cold brew at home
You will need:
- Ground coffee (higher than medium grind, not too fine)
- French press
* Proportions 70 gr. coffee per 1 liter of water (one heaped teaspoon contains approximately 5-7 grams of coffee)
- Pour ground coffee into a French press.
- Pour filtered water at cold or home temperature (unfiltered water may impart an unpleasant taste to the drink)
- Place in the refrigerator for 24 hours.
You can add ice if desired.
* By pouring a large volume of coffee at a temperature of 2-4 degrees Celsius, this drink can be stored for a couple of weeks, so you can safely infuse it in the refrigerator and enjoy it whenever you want.
* If the storage temperature is higher, the drink will retain its freshness and aroma for up to three days.

Difference between cold and hot brewed drinks
When preparing coffee drinks, regardless of the brewing method, the same ingredients are used. The composition includes water and ground beans. However, the result is different. The chemical reaction that occurs during cooking directly depends on the temperature of the water.
Among the main differences are the following:
- Iced coffee contains significantly more caffeine. This fact was proven during a scientific experiment conducted by US scientists. Therefore, it is recommended to dilute the finished drink with water or milk;
- In cold brew, the concentration of chlorogenic acid is significantly higher. Therefore, the coffee turns out more tasty and healthy;
- The taste of a cold drink is more refined. It lacks astringency and viscosity. But berry and fruit shades, as well as caramel notes, are clearly noticeable. Its taste is often even compared to compote. It is incredibly bright and rich. Therefore, many coffee lovers say that this brewing method is the best.

To better understand how much orange juice to add to your coffee, you need to experiment a little.
But, if you don’t have time for this, then some have already done it for you. 1-2 oranges will do for one serving, depending on how strong the orange flavor you want.
You can cut the orange into small or medium slices. You can also experiment with the size of the oranges.

Methods for preparing ice coffee
There are several ways to prepare the coffee base for iced coffee:
- classic method - coffee is brewed in any way, then cooled and served with ice cubes;
- rapid cooling – freshly brewed coffee is instantly cooled using a heat exchange system;
- cold brew - ground coffee is poured with water at room temperature in a ratio of 1:4 or 1:5 and left for 3-24 hours. The drink is then filtered and mixed with ice. This method was used by Balzac;
- cold brew “hot bloom” - coffee is poured with a small amount of hot water, and when gas bubbles come to the surface, cold water is added. After the gas is removed, extraction proceeds more evenly;
- slow-drip cold brew - cold water slowly drips onto a coffee tablet, and after passing through it, flows into the vessel;
- Japanese method (flash brew) - coffee, which is brewed in a Chemex or pour-over, is poured directly onto ice;
- freezing – brewed coffee is frozen and then topped with milk before serving.
What is the difference between cold brew and iced coffee?
The two drinks are similar in appearance, but they are not the same thing. Ice coffee (ice coffee)
It is prepared like regular espresso, which then cools and simply adds ice.
Simply put, this is the most ordinary espresso or Americano, which is cooled in the refrigerator. The whole process is relatively simple. By pouring hot water over the ground grains, you get a ready-made drink in just 4 minutes. After this, you just need to cool it.
Cold brew, on the other hand, is prepared without the use of heat. You pour the ground grains with cold filtered water and leave to brew for 12-24 hours. The end result is a drink that is smoother and sweeter than regular coffee.
Elixir of Life
Some studies have shown
that daily coffee consumption can extend your life. Why? The fact is that coffee increases the body's ability to burn fat, increases insulin sensitivity and reduces the risk of dementia.
The conclusions of most studies are based on the large number of antioxidants that coffee is rich in, especially chlorogenic acid.
It is believed that some antioxidants, along with oils and acids, remain in the drink after this brewing process, which means that cold coffee is not inferior to hot coffee in this regard.
