How to make coffee with added alcoholic beverages?

The union of coffee and alcohol becomes especially strong during the period of chilly wind and the first winter cold. This traditional combination of ingredients helps to quickly warm up, which is necessary at the first signs of a cold, and thanks to caffeine it has an invigorating effect.

Our guide will introduce you to hot alcoholic cocktails based on coffee, and also tell you about the basic rules and subtleties of their preparation.

BASIC COMPOSITION

An alcoholic cocktail with coffee is quite simple to prepare. In most cases it includes:

strong hot coffee;

main alcohol of high strength (whisky, rum, brandy, vodka, port, tequila and others);

additional alcohol to give a bright taste (various liqueurs);

sugar and whipped cream to soften the taste;

various spices for a bright aftertaste: (vanilla, cloves, nutmeg).

Based on such a set, you can create a lot of combinations. However, you need to remember a few simple but important rules.

BASIC RULES

Coffee

It is advisable to use coffee prepared using a coffee machine, rather than a French press or Turkish coffee. This makes it more concentrated and rich, with a subtle nutty aftertaste. You can choose the variety to suit your taste, the main thing is high quality and deep roasting. Under no circumstances should you prepare coffee for cocktails in advance, as its taste may not change for the better.

Alcohol

Coffee goes best with whiskey, rum, various creamy, nut and cocoa liqueurs, and also, oddly enough, vodka. When choosing alcohol, you need to be careful about drinks containing wine, vermouth and overly sweet fruit liqueurs. But gin should be excluded: its bitter, herbaceous taste is absolutely incompatible with coffee.

Additional Ingredients

When making coffee cocktails, don't skimp on additional ingredients. If you need whipped cream, it is better to make it yourself, rather than using ready-made ones from a can: their taste will immediately give away negligence. Spices are added at the very last moment to give a bright flavor. They must be fresh and, needless to say, natural.

7 POPULAR LIQUEURS FOR COFFEE COCKTAILS

Since, according to the new legislation, we cannot write about existing alcohol brands and names, we had to write about fictitious ones.

  • Baileysk is a 17% ABV cream liqueur based on cream, Irish whiskey, sugar, vanilla and cocoa beans. It was first released in 1974. Now available in several versions: original, mint chocolate, caramel and others.
  • Frangelicok is a liqueur with a distinct nutty flavor and herbal notes. According to legend, it was invented by an Italian hermit monk more than 300 years ago. Its strength is 20%.
  • Gallianok is a herbal liqueur with a vanilla aftertaste and a strength of just over 30%. It was created in 1896 in Italy, the city of Livorno. It contains a whole composition of various herbs and spices: anise, vanilla, ginger, citrus and lavender.
  • Kahluak is a sweet, coffee-flavored, rum-based Mexican liqueur. It has an ABV of 20% and its mass production began in 1936.
  • Amarettok is an Italian liqueur with almond flavor. It is made from sweet and bitter almonds with the addition of herbs and grape syrup.
  • Creme de Cacaok is a sweet liqueur based on cocoa beans, caramel and vanilla. It can be either white or brown, and the lighter the liqueur, the sweeter it is. The strength does not exceed 22%.
  • Grand Marnierk is a strong, fruity, orange-flavored liqueur based on French cognac, created in 1880. It is prepared using the zest of bitter Caribbean oranges, with several types of cognac, sugar and a special ingredient that is kept secret. After six months of aging, its strength ranges from 40% and above.

Important aspects

Despite the fact that each country has its own traditions associated with making similar cocktails, there are several general rules that, if followed, will help you make a fragrant drink. For these purposes, it is better to use high-quality ingredients that do not interfere with each other’s taste. These consistencies usually contain espresso, cappuccino, or beans boiled in a Turk.

Those who do not know what kind of alcohol can be added to coffee need to understand that it can be not only cognac, but also liqueur, vodka, whiskey or rum. But the best thing to mix with coffee is soft drinks with a nutty, creamy or chocolate flavor. In addition, coffee and alcoholic drinks are supplemented with fruits, berries or natural juices. They are served hot, in thick glass cups that retain heat well.

For those who have doubts about whether it is possible to mix coffee with alcohol, it must be said that scientists have not yet come to a single point of view on this issue. Some believe that these are two incomparable components, others are convinced that a cup of a properly prepared drink will not lead to unnecessary consequences. The only thing that the two opposing camps agree on is that such cocktails should not be used by people suffering from hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. In addition, it is important to remember that in everything it is necessary to observe moderation. Constant abuse of similar solutions can provoke large pressure surges and heart rhythm disturbances.

IRISH COFFEE

Irish coffee is the cocktail that instantly comes to mind when you think of the combination of hot coffee and alcohol. This cocktail was created in the early forties of the last century by bartender Joe Sheridan, who worked at Shannon Airport, located near the Atlantic coast of Ireland. In those days, transatlantic liners from the United States often arrived at the airport, and in order to somehow welcome and warm tired passengers, Joe came up with a simple cocktail containing whiskey, strong coffee and sugar, based on the traditional Irish recipe for whiskey and tea.

The resulting alcoholic drink was very popular with Stanton Delaplane, a journalist from San Francisco, who in 1952 talked about it in his favorite American bar, Buena Vista. This is how Irish coffee gained its popularity in the USA. Then the recipe was slightly changed: American bartenders began to add high-fat cream on top of the cocktail.

COMPOUND

Strong coffee - 100 ml Irish whiskey - 40 ml Sugar - 2-3 pieces Cream (22% fat or more) - 20 ml

Place sugar cubes in a glass and pour in whiskey. Add coffee and stir until sugar dissolves. Garnish with cream, carefully pouring it into the cocktail along the inside of the spoon so that it remains on the surface. Do not stir.

Coffee drink with whiskey

Whiskey is truly a man's drink, but in combination with coffee and cream it will find a lot of fans among women. A soft, pleasant and slightly relaxing cocktail with a light alcoholic note will be the perfect end to the day.

Types of alcoholic beverages that can be added to coffee

Experiments to develop new drinks based on coffee and alcohol have been going on for many years. This helped determine the types of alcohol most suitable for preparing such cocktails.

Wine

For hot coffee drinks, semi-sweet and dessert red and white wines are used. They add pronounced sourness or bitterness. The final taste depends on the type of wine. Often the alcohol is heated, without bringing it to a boil, before mixing with other ingredients.

Mead

Coffee and mead are a good combination. This alcoholic drink has a fairly mild taste. It is added to cappuccino and latte. There are many varieties of mead with strength ranging from 17° to 42°. It is better to add alcohol with a teaspoon, making it easier to control the amount of alcohol used. Mead is often combined with liqueurs.

Sambuca

Sambuca is made from aniseed vodka and herbs. It goes well with coffee. There are several cocktails that contain both of these ingredients. 5-6 drops of sambuca are enough to give the finished drink a special flavor.

Sambuca

Rum

Rum goes well with coffee. This drink is used to quickly warm up in winter and autumn. You can add either dark or white rum. In addition, this alcohol is often combined with cappuccino, latte and mochaccino.

Cognac and brandy

They complement the taste of natural coffee well. There are many varieties of cold and hot cocktails that contain these types of alcohol. Cognac and brandy go well with chocolate liqueur. This helps soften the taste of the drink and gives it a special aroma.

Liquor

This is a traditional coffee additive. It is recommended to add creamy Baileys to espresso. In addition, you can add caramel, nut and chocolate liqueurs.

Almond amaretto can deepen the taste of the drink. Liqueurs are characterized by low strength, so the finished coffee cocktail will not be intoxicating.

Liquor

Tincture

Various herbal liqueurs and tinctures complement coffee bitterness well. It is best to use citrus, fruit-cream and cherry types of this alcohol. Fans of spicy flavors can add tinctures made with herbs and spices to coffee drinks.

If you want a stronger cocktail, adding a small amount of tequila or gin is acceptable. Tinctures are considered a good addition to cold coffee drinks.

Cocktail "Cafe Brulot"

This drink has the property of burning and warming from the inside, which is why it has another name – “Devil’s”. His recipe was invented back in 1890 in New Orleans, but it still does not lose its popularity among coffee lovers.

What happens to the body when drinking coffee after drinking alcohol?

The common belief that coffee is a good sobering agent after alcohol is wrong. After drinking, we relax; if there is no noisy party around, we feel sleepy. Yes, drinking a caffeinated drink will give you a temporary boost, but the effect is deceiving. This creates a false impression of sobriety, but your reactions and reflexes will continue to be slow. It is no coincidence that many accidents occur due to the fault of drivers who drank a cup of invigorating liquid and got behind the wheel, confident in their sobriety.

When alcohol enters the body, dopamine is produced (the hormone of happiness, positivity and fun). Of course we feel much better. And the hormone also activates the production of a component such as cyclic AMP. It makes us more active. The body regulates AMP levels, which helps avoid overstimulation.

A mixture of strong alcohol and coffee is far from the best cocktail to quickly fall asleep and have a good night's sleep. Alcohol does not allow your brain to forget about itself, even if you have stopped drinking it, and sends energy signals. The effect of caffeine also does not go away quickly; moreover, it affects the body even longer than alcohol (about 6 hours). Well, in the morning an unpleasant surprise will await you - a severe hangover, because caffeine and alcoholic drinks in tandem suck all the fluid out of the body.

If you have a hangover, coffee has a diuretic effect, but you can drink a tonic drink only after a large amount of liquid (at least 3-4 glasses of water).

Video with other cooking recipes

  • We present to your attention a video from a professional bartender with a recipe for making the famous Irish coffee.

  • In this video you will learn the recipe for an original coffee cocktail with vodka and “coffee liqueur”, called “Espresso Martini”. This drink was invented in England in the eighties of the last century and is still prepared in many establishments in London.

Advantages and disadvantages of use

Coffee is one of the favorite drinks of Europeans, so we couldn’t think of anything to cook it with. Using liqueur, you can make many dessert cocktails and serve them at home to surprise your guests. Yes, you can drink to cheer yourself up if you are not going to drive.

However, we must remember that both coffee and alcohol put a strain on the cardiovascular system, which, when combined, increases exponentially. Therefore, do not indulge in coffee with liqueur too often.

Other similar options for coffee with alcohol

If you liked the idea of mixing coffee with different types of alcohol, then we suggest you try these combinations:

  • coffee with rum, to which you can add a piece of ice cream instead of cream;
  • coffee with liqueur, which can have a completely new taste each time, depending on the chosen brand and type of liqueur itself (we definitely recommend trying Italian amaretto coffee).

Now that you know so many different options for preparing alcoholic coffee drinks, you can make drinking your favorite drink more varied and enjoyable. Share your comments and live in style!

Distinctive features of the drink

People have been drinking coffee since approximately 850 AD. e. In general, a very long time ago. During this time they tried a variety of additives: sugar, milk, cream, ice cream...

There are different types of coffee with added alcohol, but coffee with liqueur can be considered the leader among them, since it is the most popular coffee drink with alcohol.

A few features to keep in mind:

  • Make coffee with liqueur only from natural beans (instant coffee drinks are not suitable);
  • even a small amount of alcohol in a drink already makes it alcoholic, so you can’t drive after coffee with liqueur;
  • While children can still drink regular coffee from time to time, coffee with liqueur is categorically not recommended for them - just like for pregnant women.

Everyone chooses the proportions of coffee and liqueur individually. But it is not recommended to add more than 1/3 of alcohol to the drink, as alcohol can overwhelm the taste of the grains.

How to dilute tea

Let's give an example of how you can not spoil the taste of tea, but, on the contrary, enhance its taste:

  1. Cognac. This is the most famous alcoholic drink, which is very popular in combination with tea.
  2. Brandy. If for some reason you don’t like cognac, then brandy would be an excellent combination with tea.
  3. Rum. This traditional drink takes third place. There is a legend that pirates sometimes added it to their tea. Maybe later this tradition moved to the shore, and people decided to legitimize it.
  4. Liqueurs or tinctures. Most often, tea is diluted with homemade infusions. This is typical for Slavic peoples.
  5. Wine. Tea is rarely mixed with an alcoholic drink of this kind. Sometimes wine is replaced with port.

You can rely on your own taste preferences. We’ll look at what kind of alcohol tea is drunk with in the following recipes.

Coffee and strawberry “Aragast”

  • strawberry puree - 100 gr.;
  • espresso - 100 gr.;
  • cream 35% - 2 cups;
  • fruit liqueur - 50 g;

  • chocolate or cinnamon for decoration.
