How to use the Nescafe Dolce Gusto capsule coffee machine

Capsule coffee machines are becoming increasingly popular, as they differ from conventional ones in their ease of use: just insert the capsule and the drink is prepared. Coffee capsules are purchased separately and are sold in coffee shops and large supermarkets. The price for a package of branded capsules is relatively low, but questions often arise about how long a capsule lasts for a coffee machine, and is it profitable?

Is it possible to put coffee back into the capsule?

The capsule contains regular ground coffee, and therefore the question often arises: is it possible to somehow pour regular coffee into it and will the drink be prepared? This cannot be done with regular standard capsules. But some manufacturers produce special reusable capsules into which you can pour a portion of ground beans, carefully remove the excess, close the lid and put it back into the coffee machine.

One reusable capsule can be used more than 50 times, then the membrane begins to deteriorate.

Reusable capsules for coffee machines are produced by Nespresso, Lavazza, Tassimo, Dolce Gusto, and some less famous manufacturers. Therefore, if you are just choosing a coffee machine and plan to save on capsules, you should choose one of these options.

Another important advantage of reusable capsules is the ability to add any coffee you like. Manufacturers usually offer a fairly limited selection of drinks, and sometimes you want something special, for example, special varieties or flavors. You can put whatever you want into a reusable capsule, add spices to your coffee or grind exclusive beans. Overall, it's tasty and convenient.

Principle of capsule machine

Devices for capsules are a separate type of equipment. They are intended only for cups; there is no other way to prepare a drink in them. When buying such a unit, you need to realize that you will have to use only sealed containers, so before choosing, you need to study the range of all companies in terms of coffee.

The fact is that capsules most often cannot be replaced with others, since they are only suitable for “your” coffee maker, but there are exceptions that managers can tell you about. For example, Cremesso, Nespresso, and Di-Maestri cups fit together. Same thing with Lavazza and Tassimo. Philipps and Bosch do not fit any coffee machines.

How to use coffee capsules:

  • Place the glass in the compartment.
  • Place the mug under the spout of the machine.
  • Pour water into the tank.
  • Turn on the machine using the “Start” button.

After this, a needle comes out from inside and pierces the soft foil shell of the glass. Hot water under pressure begins to flow into the brewer (this is another nuance), after which the finished drink flows into the mug.

The quality of espresso depends on the pressure that the machine is capable of creating. If it is at a level of 7 - 8 atmospheres, the coffee will be tasty and aromatic. To increase the strength, it is recommended to adjust the amount of water per serving.

Drinks such as lattes and cappuccinos can also be prepared in a capsule coffee maker, but you will have to buy 2 types:

  • black coffee for espresso base;
  • milk additive from powdered milk.

It will cost twice as much, so lovers of milk-based coffee drinks are advised to think carefully before choosing a coffee machine.

How can you save on coffee capsules?

Single-use capsules are quite expensive, and therefore a prepared shot of espresso can be comparable in price to the cost of a drink in a coffee shop. The capsule is used once, for one cup, and it is much more expensive than buying ground coffee in packages or by weight. Of course, for those who care about taste, price is usually not an issue, but still.

  • Disposable coffee containers cost about 25-36 rubles per piece (the price varies depending on the contents, the specific brand, and what packages and volumes to take, individually or in bulk.
  • Reusable models are usually sold in packs of 2-4-6 pieces, and cost about 1000 - 2500 rubles per pack, although you can find various promotions and lucrative offers online. One capsule in this case costs about 400-500 rubles (you can find options for 200), but it will be enough for 50+ cups of coffee, and it turns out that the price of one preparation is 8-10 rubles. Plus the price of coffee, of course. But in any case, it turns out cheaper, and at the same time you drink your favorite drink.

Brand history

Dolce Gusto units were produced by the Swiss transnational company Nestle , which began its own activities in 1866, and soon the products of this company began to be actively sold throughout Europe, which provided broad ground for the expansion of production. Since the 1900s, Nestle has had several divisions in the USA, Great Britain, and Spain, thanks to which its products began to be sold throughout the world. This predetermined the success of the brand, which was associated with a real boom in products that subsequently began. After the Second World War, the history of the brand can be traced to the systematic expansion of both its range and its production in the form of the construction of new factories and plants, including in countries such as Brazil, Singapore and Russia.

For some time now, Nestle has had a subsidiary company Krups , which began to directly produce Nescafe Dolce Gusto capsule coffee machines. To popularize this line of household appliances, the company has repeatedly attracted American stars and Hollywood actors to advertise the products, which led to a sharp rise in product sales.

Rules of care

Many owners neglect the instructions for Nescafe dolce gusto krups and use vinegar for cleaning. The manufacturer recommends using original products, but in extreme cases, you can dissolve citric or tartaric acid. They are safer and do not cause damage.

To avoid the appearance of an unpleasant odor, it is necessary to periodically wash the capsule holder. If plaque appears in the water container, it is washed to prevent debris from getting into the internal parts. This can clog the needle that carries hot water into the capsule.

Review: Nescafe Dolce Gusto Oblo coffee machine - Like a toy, interesting design and. making coffee!

No matter how many ways I brewed coffee, it finally came to a capsule coffee maker. I didn’t buy it, but received it as a gift for participating in the promotion. And of course I was glad to try it in action. The Nescafe Dolce Gusto Oblo coffee machine looks interesting, there is something cosmic about it. She also has a box like this, unusual:

Of course, there are instructions for it, but in essence it is intuitive, all control is carried out by two buttons.

This model comes in different colors; I found, as it seems to me, the most neutral one, suitable for a kitchen of almost any color: milky white and gray.

This coffee maker (I don’t dare call it a coffee machine) is sold under the Nescafe Dolce Gusto trademark, but, as you understand, companies producing coffee are not involved in the production of equipment, because the real manufacturer of this machine is Krups. It is far from new; it produces kitchen appliances, and in particular coffee makers. As I already mentioned, all control is carried out using two buttons.

I would even say one button (on//off) and a lever for supplying cold or hot water. All this is located on top and for me this is a plus; it is thanks to this placement that the youngest child has not yet been able to completely disassemble my new coffee machine.

The coffee maker is very compact, perhaps the narrowest of all that I have had, and therefore does not take up much space on the desktop.

The water compartment is located on the back wall; it does not look large at all, but its actual size allows you to prepare several cups of coffee/tea/hot chocolate without adding water.

The water tank is completely sealed, which is a big plus for me. Even if you poured water into it in the evening, dust, crumbs or stray cockroaches are completely excluded from getting into it. To remove the tank you need to grab it by the edge and pull it towards you, it will take a little force.

The volume of the water container is 0.8 liters. More than enough even for three full large servings of hot drink.

But from the outside he seems so miniature.

The fact that the water tank is completely removable also makes it easier to clean the coffee maker, its surface is smooth, there are a minimum of removable elements, so disassembling it takes no more than 15 seconds, after which you can simply wipe it with a damp cloth to remove dust and coffee splashes.

The only thing I did NOT like about the appearance of the Nescafe Dolce Gusto Oblo was the COLOR of the power cord. At first I even had a suspicion that my coffee maker was from some defective batch. Because tell me, why was it necessary to make the wire bright red for the white and gray coffee maker?

Not the most popular color, moreover, I will say, this is the only red thing in my kitchen. There are no complaints about the quality, I even found its SHORT length suitable because the socket is very close to the installation site. But then I looked more closely at the packaging and realized that this color was not an accident; on the packaging of this wire, even the word “New” is folded.

So be prepared. Nescafe Dolce Gusto produces capsules for drinks of various sizes, both for very small cups of single espresso, and for large portions of coffee and chocolate. Therefore, it is possible to change the height of the tray depending on the height of your cup. There are only two options, but in practice this is completely sufficient. Here is an option designed for a small and medium cup of drink, the tray is high:

And this option with a drip tray lowered down for tall cups and large portions:

In fact, if you suddenly decide to make a can of coffee, you can remove the tray altogether and not use it
